Information about the “races” of Aeon Dawn are below. “Picks” can be used to raise statistics or add abilities. “Skill Picks” are to add skills to your character. One Skill Pick gets an “Easy” skill at the Attribute value plus 1 an “Average” or “Hard” skill at Attribute, and a “Very Hard” skill at Attribute minus 1. Additional Picks devoted to the same skill increase the level of expertise. In GURPS terms, a Skill Pick is roughly 4 character points. Half-Picks are allowed for Skill Picks and are worth 2 GURPS character points. If you are not familiar with GURPS, you can download GURPS Lite to see what levels your skills will be at if you spend half-picks on skills.
For Attributes 10 is the base stat with above 14 being exceptional. Strength and Health cost 1 Pick, Dexterity and IQ cost 2 Picks
Those familiar with GURPS will note that 1 point advantages cost 0 Picks but must be balanced by Quirks (max. 5 of these), advantages 2-4 points cost 1/2 a Pick, 5-14 points cost 1 Pick and any advantages that cost 15-30 points cost 2 Picks. Advantages costing more than 30 are only allowed with GM approval.
Disadvantages give “extra” Picks according to the same scale, but you can only have as many extra Picks as you had Picks originally. For example, a Genefixed has 10 Picks so can have 10 extra Picks if you want your character to be that Flawed, but an AI with only 2 picks will only be able to get Flaws worth 2 picks to add to its already formidable abilities.
