The Main Asteroid Belt between Earth and Mars is depicted a lot more crowded in this image than it actually is. In actuality, the asteroids tend to clump up in sections. Just outside of each of these clumps you are sure to find another sort of clump of mining stations. The Belt is a big place, and there is so far enough room for every government or opportunist to mine their way to riches... or at least a decent living. Both New Las Vegas and Luna Reno have established satellite casinos in The Belt as well, so history is repeating itself from the “Gold Rush Days” here in space, with miners getting a big strike and then spending a lot of it away in the casinos.
